roads

for the roads i used the woodland scenics road system. somthing about actualy having little paved roads on my layout instead of just painting them on really made happy. over all it worked verry well but next time i think i will tape paper where i want the plaster not to go so it doesn't end up every where like this time.

rock faces

for the rock faces i used woodland scenics rock faces learning kit. since my layout is small it worked really good.

power pack idea

i screwed the power pack to the bottom so it did not take up space. cool huh

ballast

for ballast i used woodland scenics ballast. ballasting was a long and anoying but it was worth it

the color, the track and the track bed

for the green undercoat i used woodland scenics green undercoat pigment. it was realy stong on its own(see the really dark green spot in the middle left) so i put some water in it.
my track is a mix of regular and biult in road bed. i did not want to do this but the hobby store people said that that the biult-in roadbed track was the only kind they had that would work with the type of track that came in my set. next time Im going to only use atlas track beacase it it is really cheap and it looks good.
for the track bed i used woodland scenics track bed it was cheap and worked well. ive never used anything else so i dont know if it is better than other kinds.

the train

when i bought my train i was not really thinking about the time period i wanted to model and got the cheapest set at the hobby shop. wich was a steam train. it turnes out that the time period i want to model (the 50s') had diesel trains so i have to get i diesel train eventualy.

i chose N scale because i do not have much room. HO scale is more popular and has more accessories that you can buy( bildings, people, cars etc.) but N scale is getting more and more popular so it is getting more and more accessories that are availible

benchwork and mountains and lakes oh my! (lame title but all i could think of)

for my base i used a 4x4 foot peice of the cheapest plywood i could find wich was big enough for what i wanted to do now but i want to have a 4x8 next time. i wanted to have a river and a stream so i figured i would get a big peice of foam, glue it on the plywood, and cut out the lake and stream. i found the cheapest foam i could find wich was styrofoam. that was a bad idea. it did not cut well and the little beads stuck to every thing.

for the mountains i used woodland scenics plaster cloth wich worked very well. all you d0 is is tape wads of newspaper in a moulntain shape, get the plastercloth wet, and plahe it on the newspaper wads.

on the parts without mountains i was going to get plaster of paris and spread that over the uncovered parts of the layout. that did not work at all so i went along with the plaster cloth for the rest
